Following the launch of our campaign last week to keep Marchwood and Somerley Recycling Centres open, the petition has now been signed by more than 2000 local residents. We would like to thank all the people who have supported our campaign.

As well as our petition, we have also put pressure on New Forest District Council to object to the closures too. New Forest District Council collect fly-tipping so will have to fork out more money if the tips are closed. We have been told in response to our questions that NFDC will be responding to the consultation.

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for New Forest West, Jack Davies, said:

"The response to our campaign from residents across the New Forest has been phenomenal. It will send a shiver down the spine of Hampshire County Council and make them think twice before closing either of our Recycling Centres here in the New Forest."
